Silly Saturday."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve decided to swap things around. Instead of Silly Sunday, it will be Silly Saturday, and then Sunday with be Sunday Seven. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>This week we did something that seemed a little &#8216;silly&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>We had dandelions for lunch! And surprisingly, they were really good!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/homesteademporium.smugmug.com\/Homelife\/Dandelion-fritters\/i-x9ShwFk\/0\/M\/DSC6952-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"299\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We had a bunch of dandelions growing because of all the rain, so before my husband was going to mow them all away I said we should search the net for some dandelion recipes and give it a try! It always seems a shame to waste that which can be of use.<\/p>\n<p>So I did a search and came upon this page:\u00a0<a title=\"Dandelion Fritters\" href=\"http:\/\/www.learningherbs.com\/dandelion_recipes.html\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.learningherbs.com\/dandelion_recipes.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dandelion Fritters!<\/p>\n<p>It actually sounded tasty, and easy! The girls were on board to at least give it a try!<\/p>\n<p>First we picked some dandelions, watching for spiders and other little critters.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/homesteademporium.smugmug.com\/Homelife\/Dandelion-fritters\/i-LsPLM6m\/0\/M\/DSC6939-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"299\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Put them all in a bowl.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/homesteademporium.smugmug.com\/Homelife\/Dandelion-fritters\/i-dnzpHDf\/0\/M\/DSC6957-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"299\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then we laid them out on a white plate, so we could double, and triple check them for bugs.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/homesteademporium.smugmug.com\/Homelife\/Dandelion-fritters\/i-5H33Ztr\/0\/M\/DSC6978-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"299\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hee hee.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/homesteademporium.smugmug.com\/Homelife\/Dandelion-fritters\/i-8GMfJBS\/0\/M\/DSC6974-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"374\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Grabbed an egg from our hens, some flour (we just used plain white flour), some oil (you can use coconut oil, but we went with vegetable, Shaylah&#8217;s request, she didn&#8217;t want a &#8216;nutty&#8217; taste), and some milk. We use whole milk.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/homesteademporium.smugmug.com\/Homelife\/Dandelion-fritters\/i-xgfRVX2\/0\/M\/DSC6977-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"348\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Mixed it all together.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/homesteademporium.smugmug.com\/Homelife\/Dandelion-fritters\/i-GRpSjJV\/0\/L\/DSC6979-L.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"399\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Dipped the dandelions in the batter.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/homesteademporium.smugmug.com\/Homelife\/Dandelion-fritters\/i-rVqftLn\/0\/M\/DSC6993-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"299\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And fried them up!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/homesteademporium.smugmug.com\/Homelife\/Dandelion-fritters\/i-6VsT25L\/0\/M\/DSC6984-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"299\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>They were actually starting to smell REALLY good!<br \/>\nElsa wasn&#8217;t sure what to think. Hee hee.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/homesteademporium.smugmug.com\/Homelife\/Dandelion-fritters\/i-Bg5fBf5\/0\/M\/DSC7001-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"299\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It looks like FOOD. Not weeds!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/homesteademporium.smugmug.com\/Homelife\/Dandelion-fritters\/i-JV7gnvB\/0\/M\/DSC7000-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"286\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hmmmm&#8230; not bad.<\/p>\n<p>And there you have, dandelion fritters!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/homesteademporium.smugmug.com\/Homelife\/Dandelion-fritters\/i-rnVn9Cr\/0\/M\/DSC7004-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We tried them first with a bit of salt, with the head of the dandelion. Then we did the rest like tiny pancakes, pulling the petals from the dandelions and mixing them through the batter. We liked that best.<\/p>\n<p>We tried some with maple syrup, that was my favorite!<\/p>\n<p>The kids also tried them with mustard. They said it was good that way too. I don&#8217;t much like mustard.<\/p>\n<p>Our dandelions are all mowed away now, but I believe we may make these again if some more grow over the next few months.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, they were good enough to say we&#8217;d do it again!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve decided to swap things around.
