I truly believe that big changes start with small . first . steps .
Every small choice we make has an impact, and when it comes to everyday essentials, the difference between disposable and reusable products is profound. At Homestead Emporium, we believe that reusables are more than just an eco-friendly option, they\u2019re a step toward a healthier, more sustainable, and more intentional<\/em><\/strong> way of living.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Switching to reusable cloth products isn\u2019t just about reducing waste (though that is a huge benefit!). It\u2019s about making choices that align with your values, improve your quality of life and comfort, and ALSO contribute to a brighter future for the earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Problem with Disposables<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s start with the big picture: disposable menstrual products are a significant source of waste. According to research (have I mentioned I love to research??), the average woman uses between 12,000 and 16,000 pads or tampons in their lifetime. Most of these products end up in landfills or, worse, in our waterways, where they take hundreds of years to break down. *Side note tip here about garbage- Did you know that if you throw your trash into plastic bags, anything that COULD break down naturally, like paper products, food items, ash, plants, etc., is no longer able to do so once it\u2019s put into a plastic garbage bag?? I share this tip because although I \u201cknew\u201d plastic doesn\u2019t compost, I didn\u2019t stop to think about THAT fact until I took a composting class\u2026 It was a very \u201cdoh!\u201d moment for me.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Traditional pads and tampons are made with plastics, synthetic fibers, and chemicals<\/em><\/strong> that not only harm the environment but also come into direct contact with YOUR<\/em><\/strong> skin! Our skin is our biggest organ! We often don\u2019t consider this when making decisions about what we put on, or against, our skin.

This combination of waste, pollution, and potential health risks raises a critical question: <\/em>
<\/em>Why do we keep using disposables when better, healthier, and even more comfortable options exist?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Benefits of Reusable Cloth Products<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Eco-Friendly Living<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every reusable cloth pad you use replaces hundreds of disposables over its lifetime.
By choosing reusables, you\u2019re keeping plastic-based products out of landfills. The ripple effect of this decision is powerful, it conserves resources, minimizes pollution, and supports sustainability over waste and convenience.

When I first began my business of creating cloth pads, I was often told that I must be a \u2018hippy\u2019 (to this day, I still don\u2019t fully understand what that\u2019s even supposed to imply and if that implication is supposed to be a negative or a positive??? lol) <\/em>
No. I am simply a woman who researched why anyone would even want to use reusable cloth pads, and through my research of disposables, I decided cloth was the better option for me, and I wanted to provide that option for my daughters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many disposable pads and tampons contain plastics, fragrances, and chemicals that can irritate sensitive skin. In contrast, our cloth pads are made from breathable fabrics. My daughter and myself also cut every pad by hand, being sure to minimize any unnecessary waste! If anyone is feeling unsure about cloth pads, but would really like to at least give them an earnest try, I always advise just buying a few liners\/light pads for days when you would like a big of protection in case your cycle begins, or during ovulation, or even as tampon back up. This is how I began. I first thought cloth pads would be GROSS, but I knew I should at least try some cloth liners because then I\u2019d save some money and waste. However, once I tried cloth liners, there was just NO going back to disposables\u2026 suddenly THEY seemed SO GROSS in comparison to the comfort of cloth!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
