I truly can not get enough of these ducklings. They are just TOO cute!
We’ve always wanted ducklings but kept putting it off, and putting it off, waiting until “when we finally move”. Well I got tired of waiting, we all did, so we finally just went and got some at our local poultry swap meet yesterday!
Our other ducks are Muscovy ducks. We got them back in February and they were already close to being full grown at 3 months old. These ones are Khaki Campbell ducks and two of them were just a day old yesterday, one was two days old although it MUST be a runt because it’s TINY, and another was 3 days old. You can tell in the photo from yesterday that the one is MUCH bigger then the other three.
Here’s some photos from today.
The twins, Shaylah and Julia’s, ducklings, they are both from the same breeder and both 2 days old today.

Alesia’s duckling, the one I feel must be a runt of some sort, and my very favorite because she is just so darn curious!

And Elsa’s duckling who is the biggest and about 4 days old now.

This evening the girls put their large ducks in our small pond. They splashed up a storm. We found out that ducks, like chickens, will stick pretty close to home if you let them roam although I’m still not comfortable leaving them alone because of the amount of eagles, hawks, and even vultures we have here. We definitely can’t leave the babies alone!
Every day there’s excitement on the homestead. Last night while I was at the computer, I gazed outside through the french doors and sure enough, Bandit, my son’s horse was out in the front yard. He truly suits his name. To Bandit, the grass is ALWAYS greener on the other side of the fence and one way or another, sooner or later, he always seems to find his way to the other side. He actually squeezes himself through the fencing. It’s the plastic coated wire kind. This is a 800 pound animal we’re talking about here, but he’s sure he’s just a big dog. Thankfully he’s easy enough to get back into the paddocks and he never takes off or bolts, unlike my *ahem* horse, she’d take off if she wasn’t too scared to touch the fence lol.
Shortly after we got the horse back into the paddock, one of my daughters had the finch’s cage door open while she was trying to check something, an sure enough the finch got loose. I have NO idea where the cat suddenly came from but in a FLASH our big, old, FAT cat pounced on that bird like she wasn’t 12 years old anymore. She took off down the stairs with that bird in her mouth! I was sure the bird was a goner! Elsa heard the commotion, saw the cat dash into the kitchen and screamed like a good girl and the cat stopped dead in her tracks and dropped that bird. LOL When Elsa screams ANYONE and ANYTHING stops dead in their tracks. lol
Today I can happily report that the bird has lived another day. He seems alright. I’m hoping if he’s made it this long, it means he’s ok but he’s awfully quiet today compared to usual. I’m hoping it’s just the shock.
And because my blog is as random as I apparently am, here’s a few photos of some recent custom orders which I forgot to share earlier. I am WAY behind in sharing photos on here!

Ummm… I think that’s enough for now. lol
We’ll see you again tomorrow! This is the best I’ve ever done with posting EVERY day. lol That’s one whole week! Ha!
