I was really skeptical about the comfort and fit of cloth pads. I thought they’d be bulky and uncomfortable, especially during summer.
I just got back from a camping trip in 90 degree heat with 70% humidity. These pads held up. Not a single leak, and I could barely tell I was wearing them the whole time! I love cloth now, and will never go back to disposables.
I was worried about absorbency and cleaning but both have proved to be none issues. Absorbent and easy to clean!
to me it was all about softness. disposable pads are yucky feeling, but soft bamboo is wonderful!
I haven’t had much opportunity to use mine. I bought them when I was pregnant with my oldest. I used them post partum, then for the one period I had before conceiving my second child and then again post partum. One day i will be using them monthly.
As crazy as it sounds now, one of my biggest concerns with switching to cloth was what my husband would think!!! I’ve always been very modest when it comes to ‘womanly things’, even with my husband. Perhaps its part of keeping the mystery of femininity…I’m not really sure. Regardless, I was leery of switching to cloth for fear that I would not be able to remain discreet. However, my fears were needless. I store my unused cloth pads underneath the bathroom sink and keep my cloth pads in a small bucket, also underneath the bathroom sink, until laundering them. They are seen no more than disposable ones, if not less, due to the lack of bulky packaging. I cannot tell you how much I LOVE using cloth pads. And I must say, my husband has seen the benefits and is quite the proponent of them now, too!
Before I switched to cloth I was worried about the washing factor. I don’t know why I was worried. I’m already washing diapers so I just throw them in there. What really convinced me was post-partum with baby #5 I just used the disposable pads I got from the hospital because, hey, they gave me a bunch and I didn’t want to waste them. I got “diaper rash!” I have refused to use the disposables ever since then.
I have made the switch! One of the pics above is of my custom order that I can’t wait to get!!
After having my son, and reading further into the chemicals in diapers, we switched to cloth. But once I started reading, I got into reading about pads, and was shocked (and a bit ashamed!) at the list of chemicals I put up next to MY body for 24 hours a day, days on end. If I didn’t want those chemicals on my son’s skin, what on earth was I putting myself thru it for? So I lept in with both feet and ordered a large stash, and once they arrive, I’ll be a Mama-Cloth Mama for good! 🙂
I just started using cloth after the birth of my second baby 5 months ago. It was easy for me to take the leap because so many women I know use cloth. I birthed my 2nd at a free standing birth center and the midwives really recommend cloth. I decided that since I was cloth diapering my kids then why shouldn’t I cloth pad myself. I like the idea of it being way better for the environment and not having that nasty sposie pad smell! Plus my dog would always try and get the pads out of the trash ewwwwww!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE homestead emporium, the pads are SO soft and never retain any smell after washing them. I never once had a leak even with the PP bleeding. I recommend cloth to everyone i know! I also am so in love with the super soaker nursing pads, they are so soft and again i don’t have to throw away nursing pads which is nice.
I am new to Mama cloth. I started my stash after my 2nd daughter was born as the pads made me so sore. When I asked the midwife about it she said women complain of discomfort all the time when they switch from maternity pads to the thin ones. She believed it was the chemicals in the thin ones. This made total sense as that was why I’d started using cloth diapers (the chemicals). I really wished I’d got a postpartum stash at that point but started building a stash for when my period returned.
I’ve only had 4 periods but they are so much more enjoyable now I’m using cloth. My fave pads are BV topped, fleece backed ones. I’ve never had a leak & they are SO much more comfy. Like pp have said, they feel just like underwear.
As for washing, I just do them with the diapers so it’s super easy!! I would really recommend them & say “don’t be scared, try a few different types to find out what works for you before investing in lots of 1 specific type”
I am in the midst of receiving said cloth items from my friend for my twin girls soon. I’m sure they will be reporting their thoughts soon! They’d love to be entered into a contest 🙂 As for myself, I have not tried cloth personally.
My biggest advice is just to try it. I tried it (without knowing anyone who use them) because I got VERY badly chafed every month by disposables. I love how you can customize what you have so it’s personal to you and your own needs.
You know, I no longer need these, but I’ve been seriously thinking about when the time comes for my daughters to get them started on them right off the bat. I never had much success with the disposable too many leaks, accidents and ruined clothes. Reading most of these comments help to settle it in my mind even more.
I’ve absolutely loved everything about cloth since making the switch after my fourth daughter was born!
So much more comfortable, breathable, and a good deal easier to use than I’d initially expected. 🙂 No waste, no icky “pad” smell, no crinkly disposable pads and packaging to tote around — or wear (always hated that sound/feeling in general) — and at the end of the week I just toss them in the washer. Simple.
Honestly, there’s not a thing about cloth I dislike … especially the deliciously soft and lovely bamboo fabrics most of my stash consists of. Thank goodness we have such great options!

Just wanted to say that I felt the same way before switching to cloth pads … and a LadyCup. I used tampons almost exclusively, with disposable pads for back-up, and swapping that routine for a reusable cup and cloth pads has been a breeze!
You’ll be surprised how much more comfortable the cup/cloth combo is once you try it. I didn’t even realize how drying and irritating the disposable options could be, until I made the switch and actually felt comfortable the entire cycle. Less cramping, zero irritation (tampons are designed to actively absorb, which can be uncomfortable), the cloth pads used as back-up for the cup don’t feel much different from your regular panties, etc.
Definitely a try it, you’ll like it sort of thing. 😉
I always tell people of the comfort of cloth pads vs. disposable. That is what made me switch. The clean up is not as bad as I thought either. They can be fun also just like CDs with the pretty colors. I recomend getting a few as panty liners and going from there. Once you go with cloth you will never go back!

I’m hoping to add a post geared just for men in our series of cloth info blog posts. I think it’s important that the men learn about the benefits so they can support their women too!
I participated in a Facebook giveaway and won my first cloth pads FFS. They sat in my drawer for a few cycles, as I was really nervous about using them. I feared that they just wouldn’t make me feel comfortable and thought the clean-up would be disgusting. I was sooooo wrong. I’ve never felt cleaner or fresher than when I am using cloth. And the cleaning is not difficult or gross at all.
We cloth diaper our daughters and I got to thinking about my reasons for cloth diapering and thought that I really needed to my part for MY products as well. I leaped in and tried a mama made minky mama cloth and OMG it was amazing, LOL I couldn’t believe how much better it felt compared to sposie pads. From that day I have never gone back and even used all cloth for my post partum flow from my 2 month old! Never had a leak or issue.
I was very surprised at how easy cloth pads are to take care of and how comfortable they are. I was expecting to be a little grossed out by them, but I’m not at all. I really enjoy getting different prints and colors.
I’ve been using cloth for about a year (maybe a bit longer?). I used cloth diapers for my son and heard about mama cloth for a long time before taking the leap. Should have done it sooner! It saves money, reduces my trash output (that’s been a big focus in getting greener for us), and is so so much more comfortable than disposables.
And the ‘ick’ factor really isn’t an issue. Just run them through a rinse cycle in the wash and then wash with another load of laundry.
Before I made the switch I was worried that cloth pads would be too bulky or they’d leak. Now I know that neither is true. Even though my flow is quite heavy for the first two days, I’ve never had a leak and I’ve never had to use a very thick pad for those days either. I also find cloth pads a lot more comfortable and they do not get as stinky as disposable ones do.
Wow they are just beautiful. I have an allergy to disposable pads. It just started one day when I was 20. I have been using cloth ever since and I love it. My flo is lighter and I find cloth softer and easier to wear. I have never had any issues with caring for them. It’s so easy to just toss them in the wash with the cloth diapers.
It is not as messy or gross as you would think. Also cloth pads are THE most comfortable pads I have ever worn.
definately the sanitary consideration of it all. is it really safe? do things really get clean?
Whenever people ask me this, I remind them that if they ‘leak’ onto their undies, or their child has a nose bleed, they certainly don’t throw away their clothing!
You simply wash your clothing well and carry on with life. 🙂
It’s the same thing with pads.
I use cloth diapers, so I thought it was just the next step in trying to be more health conscious and also more earth friendly. I used the diva cup at first, but found it hard to insert and I was constantly spilling. With cloth pads, that doesn’t happen. 🙂
cloth is actually quite easy and comfortable. One of the things that I noticed right away with cloth is that I didn’t sweat and breathed better down there which made periods MUCH more comfortable. They are also easy to wash, just throw them in with everything else, no big deal. Cloth is also reusable so you aren’t wasting money or hurting the environment.
I’d love to enter. We used cloth diapers, so mama cloth was the natural next step for me, but the thing I’d like to tell other mamas making the switch is that it’s actually fun! Yes, fun! I love choosing pads with gorgeous and soft materials. Homestead Emporium has plenty of those!
Also, you will feel great knowing that you aren’t putting toxins into your body. That is so important.
i would just tell them how soft and easy they are. washing them is no big deal- i wash mine with our cd’s.
