Ever wonder what goes on around here on a regular day to day basis?
Well let me tell you, lately, I think my world has gone a little… let’s just say… bizarre-O.
There are many things I won’t bother going into details about because I’d be here forever typing it all out, AND, some things are simply too personal, or too personally involve some, or one, of my children, and I won’t share things that would make them feel uneasy. I like to ask their permission before I share anything I’m not sure they’d like me telling the WHOLE wide world of the internet, but some things, I just know they won’t care for me to share.
However, suffice it to say, one weird thing after another has been going on here at our place. Things breaking down… first it was the dishwasher. Ok, I can handle that. I hate dishwashers anyways. They never work like they are supposed to and I didn’t even have one for many many years and managed just fine. So for the last, oh… four months or so, I’ve been washing dishes by hand and actually enjoying it for the most part.
I may need a bigger counter, or bigger kitchen, or children who can cook with less mess?
Then the microwave broke down. Well, it didn’t really break down, a part broke inside the door which means I can no longer shut it, which means I can no longer use it. We know how to fix it, well, my husband does, but he’s over a thousand miles away and I’m not paying someone to fix it. I’ll wait until he possibly comes for a visit at the end of the month. We can live without a microwave. Besides, we have a small toaster oven and an oven.
Oh wait, no… we don’t have an oven anymore.
Last night, while I was in the middle of making Bacon Cheddar Bubble Bread for dinner, my oven died. Dinner was already late because I could not put the bread in the oven BEFORE picking up Alesia and Josh from work. I had to wait until I got home because I didn’t know how long I would be gone. By the time we got home it was almost 6pm.
Wednesdays are my very busiest days. I need to get EVERYTHING done for instock by the time evening comes, to leave enough time for Joshua to put the snaps on. I hadn’t quite finished everything including snipping threads, and poking holes, into the pad wings before I left to pick them up from work. I usually have enough time Wednesday evenings to get the last bit done if things were too busy with school work, or whatever, during the day.
By the time we got home and I got the bread into the oven it was after 6pm. This was ok because the recipe said 25-40 minutes. I had time to warm up the cream of chanterelle soup I had made the day before, while we waited for the bread to bake.
Well we waited, and waited, and waited and finally Julia said, “mom, the cheese hasn’t even melted yet!”
Hmmmm… that could be a sure sign that the oven is just NOT working.
Plan B. By this time the bread has been rising for FOR.EVER and to move it out of the cast iron pan, it deflated a bit. I just knew this would mean it wasn’t going to turn out as nice, no matter how I baked it. However, I put it into my toaster oven pan and baked it anyways.
By the time it was done, it was after 8pm and I was in NO mood to go out to the studio and work. Instead, I was a bad girl and decided to simply stay in the house for a change, and watch a tv show with my three youngest girls. Needless to say, THEY were happy.
But that means today was a SUPER de DUPER busy day as I have to get all product finished and photos snapped by afternoon or the lighting won’t be perfect for my shots.
Well, now it’s 1:30 and I have yet to make it out to the cabin/studio. A few things occurred this morning, starting about… oh… an hour after I got up to take my son to work. There has been a GIANT mess to clean up involving an entire room of the house. There’s been complete chaos and in the midst of it all…
try and take one guess what happened next?
I bet anyone who knows us REAL well could figure out REAL quick who called right in the midst of it all.
Did you guess our REALTOR?
Yep. We have a showing tomorrow, early afternoon.
Oh goody.
Always mixed feelings when we get that call. We want to sell, so of course that means someone will have to SEE the house/property first, but why, oh why, after the week I’m having with the worst day of it being TODAY, does he have to call NOW?!?!?!
On top of all that, other odd things have been happening. Where my son works, he came to work yesterday to one of the horses having died. He’s always the first one at the barn, so he was the first to find it. Not a great thing to find at work.
We had one heck of a time getting hay this week. We order about once a month and it looked like I was going to be hauling some home in my suv, until finally one place called us back to say they were able to deliver it after all.
We’ve been battling a cold/flu for about… 3 weeks now? I think it’s finally on it’s way out. Elsa got it first and she seems all better now. I slept last night for the first time without taking meds.
Oh and speaking of sleep. I’ve never had problems with sleep. I fall asleep in one position and sleep so deep I wake up in that same position. I can easily go 6 hours a night for days and days on end, sometimes getting a little more, or a little less, and do just fine. Recently, my body and brain have decided that’s no fun anymore. Laying awake until 1 or 2 am and then having to get up to drive my kids to work for a 7, 7:30 or 8 am shift is SO much better. So totally amusing. Really.
But anywho…
All that to say, my life has gone Bizarre-O with a capital B & O! I should start writing things down. It could make a great comedy skit one day.
In the meantime, I better finish my breakfast (yes, I’m just having breakfast now at almost 2pm) and get into the studio to finish my work and take photos without snaps. If you don’t hear from me, I’ve gone into hiding, or been burried under a pile of fabric I was cleaning to get the cabin/studio ready for tomorrow’s showing. In either case, just leave me there. It will be peaceful. I could use some peace right about now!
Oh, Peggy, you are quite a writer! I read this to Emmett and we both laughed so hard we had tears runnning down our cheeks. I am praying you get all the stuff done that needs doing AND that the realtor brings that buyer!
The photo of the dishes on the counter is fabulous, artistic, creative!
Ahh Peggy – life sucks sometimes!
I enjoyed having the girls over – we are planning for Puss and Noots in November.
Yesterday, I went to bed at 8:30pm – denial seemed more fun than cleaning the house.
Today, I had a client tell me I was very blunt when I told him “a dead cat is not a normal cat either” when we discussed amputation because he was concerned that his cat would be missing a leg and would not look normal. He booked the surgery!
Hope things get better. I actually don’t think they can get worse for you.
Jane
holy cow…when it rains, it pours. Holly
BIZARR-O is right!!!! wow!!! <3 I hope things settle down for you and that your showing goes (went?) well!!
and can you please share your bacon cheddar buns with us all? even uncooked they looked SCRUMPTIOUS!!!
Thanks Suzi! You and Emmett are such a wonderful support for our family. 🙂
If you like that, I could take many many more. lol
Ha on the bluntness. I think our family has a hard time being anything else. lol I hope the cat is doing alright now.
Oh things aren’t really all that bad. We still have much to be thankful for, just a tough spot right now. 🙂 We’ll get through it!
Yeah, ha ha, it sure seems that way. Now on a daily basis dishes are breaking. It’s a very weird phenomenon. Truly. Just this morning I poured the water into my tea cup, a very large tea cup I’ve used many times before, and I went to sit down while it steeped on the counter. I heard a “ping/crack” and sure enough, the cup had the weirdest hairline crack going 1/4 way AROUND the middle of the cup. Never seen a crack like that. That’s about the… oh… 12th dish to break over the past week to ten days? LOL And every single one broke without being dropped, all in very weird ways.
Do you hear the twilight theme song? I’m starting to!
Kyla, I saw the recipe here first:
http://tastykitchen.com/blog/2011/09/bacon-cheddar-bubble-bread/
But the original is actually from here:

The first link did a better job with the photos though, but I like to give credit to the original ‘maker’. lol I can’t not WAIT to make this again with a working oven. It turned out ‘ok’ in the toaster oven but it had been sitting for SO long already that it just wasn’t what it should/could have been.
