I guess allowing another kitten to join our family a month or so ago, in the middle of trying to sell a home and single parenting…
and allowing them to hatch not one, but TWO ducklings, doesn’t count for much.
By the way, the kids counted how many animals we have now.

Do NOT feel bad for this poor poor pet deprived child of mine.
At least she was nice enough to add that I don’t have to answer right away. Very good of her to give me some time to think about it.
Oh, and if you DO feel so inclined to feel even just a little bit sorry for this poor puppy deprived child of mine, just know that we already have FOUR dogs AND, I’ve already told her that if we move this fall/winter, then when spring comes, we will consider allowing her to have a dog.
I think the hardest part of having 5 children is having 5 children who love animals. It’s kind of hard to say yes to one, and no to another… yet am I really willing to put up with not just 5 horses, but also 5 ducks, 5 budgies, 5 cats, 5 dogs, etc. etc… I sometimes fear what our homestead will be like when we have more land and a larger home and I run out of excuses as to why we can not add yet another animal…
Scarier yet, is that she is not the ONLY child of mine bucking for a dog at this time.
Oh, and there’s a certain spouse who also wants a dog… I won’t mention who, but I’ll just say, it’s not me…

I grew up wanting to save all the puppies/kittens we ran across, so I understand both you (as the parent) and your daughter. I too am going through doggy withdrawals as ours is boarding with my parents during our move (and we have a baby on the way).
That was sweet of her to say that you don’t have to answer right away! I think with all the craziness going on it shows just how much confidence your children have in you and your hubby if they aren’t fazed by it.
Just think…she could have asked you for a baby brother/sister 😀

Ah, a baby brother or sister, I could actually go for that. Well maybe not RIGHT now. haha! I think about adoption often (can’t have more the ‘old fashioned’ way).
I always wanted to ‘save’ everything too, so I think that’s why it’s so hard to say no. I love that my kids love animals. I just have to keep reminding myself that we’re the adults here, we need to be smart and remind ourselves of what we can handle, and what might become too much. lol
And, it doesn’t help that although my children all LOVE animals, and they WILL do all the work pertaining to each of their animals, and even work hard to try and help pay for the upkeep of their animals (for example, Julia does the facial sets to help pay for hay & feed for her horse), not many of the kids will HAPPILY do the work without being reminded. That’s my ONLY complaint, is having to constantly remind/nag. lol I get tired of feeling like the ‘bad guy’ on a daily basis but I also realize that’s simply part of raising kids, animals or not.
