I’ve mentioned a few times recently on the Homestead Emporium Facebook page that
we’ve been making, and taking, Elderberry Syrup and many have asked
how to make it, so I thought I’d share again on the blog, just how simple
it is!

I first tried elderberry in lozenge form after reading about how it
can aid in boosting the immunity, and overall health over a year and a half ago when I was really sick and tired of being sick & tired. I found some on sale at well.ca and thought I’d give it a try. I REALLY wanted to buy elderberry syrup, but the price was just way
too high for our ‘large’ family. With the small size of the bottles, we’d be going through one every day or two! Then I met Delia, from Delia’s Pantry! She let me know that she had Elderberries in her shop, Delia’s Pantry. I’ve been ordering elderberries from Delia since, and I haven’t caught a single cold since either, not even a one! A few times when others around me were sick with a cold, I felt one trying to start, but any symptoms would go away within 24 hours, tops.

To make my syrup, I use the recipe found at wellnessmama.com20130315-104124.jpg

It’s as easy as putting all your ingredients, minus the honey into a pot.

Bring it to a boil, simmer for a while, and strain… 20130315-104157.jpg

Add in your honey once it’s cooled down.

And you have GLORIOUS Elderberry Syrup!

It really is, that simple!
And, the cost of making it yourself is SO much smaller then store bought!
Delia’s Pantry and I have joined forces to offer simple DIY Elderberry Syrup making kits at Homestead Emporium! The kit comes with everything you need, except for the water and honey! A recipe is also included in the kit! You can purchase the kit direct through our Homestead Emporium shop here:

*How about you? Have you added Elderberries to your diet? My most recent adventure with elderberries was to use them to flavour a batch of kombucha during a second ferment! It’s the best kombucha I’ve made yet! What’s kombucha? I’ll be sharing my adventures with this tasty fermented drink here on the blog soon!
