It’s been an interesting 18 months watching the USA election campaign.
Being in Canada, yet having many friends, customers, and even some family in the USA has given me, and many others, a birdseye view of the past months leading up to this day. It’s been quite the experience to watch unfolding. Here’s my thoughts from the outside looking in.

Trump is the new President elect of the United States of America.
I just finished watching his acceptance speech online since I couldn’t remain awake any longer last night. Some of my girls and I watched the election results coming in as it happened, with anticipation for our neighbouring country. I realize some are reeling in shock, others are not surprised at all. Now that the results are in and the election is over, I’d like to start off by sharing one meme.

If you voted for Trump, don’t gloat.

If you voted for Hillary, don’t despair.

Be kind to one another. Now it’s time for you, as citizens of the USA, to make a change. Everyone is watching you.

I realize this is so much easier said than done, by me, an outsider. But as an outsider, I’ve been able to watch, listen, and take note of some things that those in the throes of the ‘battle’ may not have had a chance to really see and hear. Perhaps now that the election is over, it’s time to start opening eyes and ears and really start hearing what those around you are trying to say. This election speaks volumes. What is says most, to me, is that people are tired of not being heard. Those people have now spoken, with their votes.

So to those friends, family, neighbours, and customers of mine in the USA that voted contrary to the win, you must ask yourself. Are you willing to listen now? A lot of your family, friends, neighbours, co-workers, and all the others around you, voted for Trump to become your President. Will you continue to voice your opinions loudly, or will you quiet yourself now and really listen?

This vote has come as such a surprise to so many that it’s plain to see that no one was really listening. The media wasn’t listening, and the people were not listening. This has been referred to in meme’s and jokes online as being like watching a season of Survivor. When someone on the show Survivor is blindsided, it’s because they were clueless to what was really going on in their tribe. Were you clueless? If so, ask yourself why?

From one outsider’s point of view, it’s because too many people were too scared to open up and share their true feelings. Too many were not even permitting others to speak. Too many were so loud with THEIR opinions on why you should NOT vote Trump, that too many were too timid to share WHY they felt that they should.

You are ONE country. You are a very divided country right now. It’s time for real change, and that real change would be to come together now. That real change doesn’t come in the form of a new president, that real change comes from each one of you!

Trump said in his speech:

Now it is time for America to bind the wounds of division, have to get together. To all Republicans and Democrats and independents across this nation, I say it is time for us to come together as one united people.
It is time. I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be President for all of Americans, and this is so important to me. For those who have chosen not to support me in the past, of which there were a few people, I’m reaching out to you for your guidance and your help so that we can work together and unify our great country.

Your President of the United States of America says he wants your country to get together as one united people.
Will you at least try?

Trump says he’s reaching out to those who were not with him for your guidance and help, will you give it to him?

Many have spent the past 18 months voicing their opinions very loudly on why Trump should not be voted in. Perhaps some of that time would have been better spent listening to why your fellow country men and women did not agree with you.  Perhaps further discussion could have occurred if over half of your population had not been quieted, but instead been encouraged to share, and been heard.

The question now is, will anything change, or will the rest of the world be watching more of the same for the next four years, creating even more division among you?
