It has been a long long time since I’ve done a photoshoot.

When Julia asked me if I would do her maternity photoshoot, I was thrilled to say yes!
How could I pass up the opportunity to spend a few hours on a beautiful day, in a beautiful setting, with my pregnant daughter?!?

I hadn’t done a photoshoot in so long because my original camera has been throwing fits for a number of years now. I tend to get stuck on my favourite things, I’m not one to upgrade just to upgrade. I like what I like, I usually research before I buy anything of any great value, and once I have that thing I tend to have it until it’s just not worth having anymore.

So it was with my first ever professional Nikon camera.
I’ve had it for about 16 years. I had grown rather fond of it but the shutter or mirror or some such thing stuck more times than not, and for every 3 photos I would take, only 1 would not be blurry. I learned to work with that for quite a few years. I’d just take three times as many shots! Ha!

Anywho, a while back I purchased a used Nikon body identical to my original camera body.
However, in my hands, it just didn’t feel the EXACT same. So I still didn’t do any photoshoots…

But I was not going to pass up this opportunity!

We ended up doing the photoshoot much later in the pregnancy than Julia originally hoped for.
Her and her husband are farmers and their time during seeding/planting, growing and harvesting is very limited, so the timing just never seemed to work out during the warmer months. We were starting think we may be doing a photoshoot in snow!

Thankfully, on a beautiful autumn day a couple of weeks ago, we finally headed out to a local lake & park, and timed it so we would be there before sunset. As much as I don’t love my second camera body, and as much as it was slower than I would have liked for the darker shots, and as much as I wish some of the photos had turned out just a little bit brighter, I did manage to get some shots that her and I were both happy with.

Here’s some of my favourites.
I can not wait to meet my second grandson, VERY soon! She’s due in just TWO days!!!
