No, this post has NOTHING to do with moving. This post has to do with… changing diet etc..
Are there any coffee lovers reading who have cut coffee completely out of their daily diet?
I’m really wanting to make some changes in my eating, well I guess, drinking. For the past 18 years I’ve been a very loyal daily coffee drinker. Before that, I really didn’t drink coffee. Then, when I was pregnant with my now almost 18 year old son, I suddenly began to crave it and that craving has never gone away.

Quite a few months ago, I cut down from the equivalent of 6 cups of coffee, to just 2 per day, and I noticed a change quite immediately. I’m sure it’s due to the cream and sugar (two heaping teaspoons sugar per cup!) but now I’m wanting to cut out the coffee all together, a least for a while. I’m needing to boost my metabolism and this is part of my ‘plan’.
I need to know I’ll ‘survive’ if I do this.
Right now I’m thinking rooibos tea each morning instead of coffee, with a teaspoon of honey.
I CAN do this… right?
Have you tried maté? I’m in love with DAVIDsTEA, and they have a great maté tea called Chocolate Rocket, which has chocolate (duh!), raspberries, almonds, and chicory along with the maté. A little milk (vanilla silk creamer is nice) and a little sugar, and mmmm! I have yet to try their Coffee Pu-Erh tea or Jumpy Monkey and Jungle Juju which are other maté teas. They’re on the list! Of course I love tea in general!
A long time ago when I was 38 I cut coffee out completely because I thought I was drinking too much. I remember having really bad headaches! The doc suggested that I not “cut out” but “cut back” which I did. I still love my coffee! Have been drinking it black some thirty years I’d say – half my life!
Good for you Peggy, making a change!
It’s really hard. I have given it up before, but it’s tough. I get a three day long migraine when I do give it up, so I make sure that it is during a time that I can stay away out of the sun and pretty much have nothing to do. That’s rare. And I can’t do it when things are stressful, I have a lot to do, or I have to be up early every day. That’s also pretty rare.
Right now, for the most part, I am drinking earl grey tea as a substitute. It doesn’t have as much caffeine, so when I don’t drink it, I do okay. I switched over a month ago.
Rooibos tea is great, with or without the honey.
If I am not mistaken a lot of herbal and natural stores carry teas, etc that are supposed to be good coffee alternatives.
I know http://www.bulkherbstore.com sells a product called “Rise and Shine” tea; I get a lot of my herbs from them and have always loved the name-it reminds me of the children’s song 🙂
That “Chocolate Rocket” sounds yummy!
Do go slowly when reducing your caffeine intake! My mom had to reduce her intake by half a cup once every 2 weeks until she was where she wanted to be. Caffeine is very addictive and can have some nasty withdrawal side effects including headaches, insomnia, and flu-like symptoms.
I definitely think you can do this, whether it is quitting completely or just reducing your intake to a level you are happy with! 🙂
The caffine headache will kill you. If you can get through that then your okay. It’s difficutl in the winter because you want something warm. You can try Teeccino which smells like coffee. It doesn’t have caffeine in it.It doesn’t have the bitterness of coffee. Or Yerba mate. Or if you want the caffine but want a healther option. Try green tea.

My husband is Croatian and boy do they love their coffee. He has been an avid coffee drinker as long as I’ve known him. Six months ago he up and quit. He did get some headaches for a while but he now is totally caffeine-free. Believe me, if he can do it then ANYbody can do it. Cheering for you!
